Hey everyone,
maybe you know my BD game for C64. After a long time i started to play it again. I think about a walkthrough / commented longplay for this game. So, i would like to invite you to playing it, pushing the highscores and making some records for a movie.
Use the link in my signature to get the game if you want
I noticed a bug with the Mini Caves. The width is a little bit too long but i think you can get it done. I did the first but the second not.
Greetings,

A short note about your game:
I saw this strange "explosion puff" at the lower right corner when you exit at this area. It appears sometimes, but not always...
Is this a bug or some special CLCK feature?
For the rest: great game!!

I like it, as you already know.

It's an evil killer virus destroying your C64 in a few moments as soon as someone notices this puff.
Well, not really, but I noticed it, too. It really felt that insignificant that I didn't even bother to investigate the reason. And yes, it's a bug in the engine.

Pffff, now I'm really happy that I use emulators instead of a real C64!!
Anyway, it's not an indication of mega bonus points... (I always saw it when I had lots of time left)... schade...

Im playing and one cave makes me crazy. I dont get it! I played it with 10% emu-speed and with some luck you can get it done.
Here ist the exit:
I made a snapshot with WinVICE 2.0. Please try this cave, too.
Download Snapshot here!
I would like to see a record (finishing this cave)

It's your own creation...
Well, I would probably start with the fireflies along the border, as their path is most predictable. And probably their are some fireflies that kill Rockford immediately after snapping the dirt. (Not sure if an escape is possible then, or it depends on the firefly's direction.)

That's right. Although the firefly isn't moving, it is still turning in place, checking for empty space to move into. It's because of this that releasing trapped fireflies is such a crapshoot, since you can't tell which direction they're facing. There's a 50% chance they'll be either facing towards Rockford or one turn away from such; then he'll snap the dirt/diamond and...POOF!

I suck at math so please bare with me. Why 50%? I mean the Firefly has 4 directions it can be facing the moment it's released. I've never been able to determine which from it's animation though

Because there is none related to it. There is only one animation shared with all fireflies, no matter what direction they are facing. Freeing those is like playing Russian roulette.
It's more complicated than just 50%, though. It depends on the direction you're snapping as well as the direction the firefly moves first.

Well, now I have another question answered for my FAQ:
Code: Select all
What are the chances of survival when snapping a firefly free?
snapping field above firefly
snap to: right down left
escape to
up 100% 100% 50%
right 0% 50% 50%
down 0% 0% 0%
left 100% 100% 0%
snapping field to the firefly's right
snap to: up down left
escape to
up 0% 100% 100%
right 100% 50% 100%
down 100% 0% 100%
left 50% 50%* 0%
snapping field bellow firefly
snap to: up right left
escape to
up 0% 100% 50%*
right 100% 0% 100%
down 100% 100% 100%
left 100% 100% 0%
snapping field to the firefly's left
snap to: up right down
escape to
up 50%** 100% 100%
right 50%* 0% 50%
down 100% 50% 0%
left 100% 100% 100%
*=firefly will spin in place
**=not to snap increases the chance to 100% while all other omissions result in bumping into a 0% chance.
So the only luck dependency would be the very last firefly at the exit.

You know I was kidding, right?

Anyway, nice work with the math entry to your FAQ.

Wow, this is great! Now for the butterfly the matrices can be transposed, or something...?

Sorry for writing offtopic; it happens sometimes that one BD discussion leads to interesting questions about the engine, or other things...
